HERE AT THE MOSS REPORTS

For more than 30 years I have studied the subject of cancer and its treatment. The fruit of my long involvement in this field has been a comprehensive series of more than 200 individual reports on different cancer diagnoses – The Moss Reports – each one of which examines both the standard treatment options that are likely to be offered for a particular cancer diagnosis, and the possible alternative and complementary approaches that may be beneficial. Each report contains information on subjects of importance such as clinical trials, and how to select wisely from the many foreign and domestic cancer clinics that are available. The reports also offer extensive nutritional information for patients recovering from cancer, as well as for those who are currently undergoing treatment.

If you would like to order a Moss Report for yourself or someone you love, you can do so directly from our Web site, www.cancerdecisions.com or by calling 1-800-980-1234 (814-238-3367 from outside the US).

For clients who have purchased a Moss Report I offer phone consultations. These consultations are an excellent way of narrowing down your therapeutic options, both conventional and alternative, to those that have shown the most encouraging results in cases similar to yours. A recent phone consultation client wrote:

"For the past two and a half years I have battled breast cancer by natural and alternative methods, having done an in-depth research of all the options. Dr Moss' support and the knowledge he has compiled have been an endless source of comfort. When I have reached different stages of my illness and I have found myself at a crossroads, I have called upon the advice of Dr Ralph Moss as one of the only true sources of genuine information and personal care. Without his input, I would have been lost. He has done for me more than many of the private doctors that I have consulted and certainly have felt a deep feeling of care on a personal basis. That has been invaluable. I thank him from the bottom of my heart." — C.H.A

If you would like to schedule a phone consultation please call 1-800-980-1234 (814-238-3367 from outside the US) or send an email to: Jacquie@cancerdecisions.com.

We look forward to helping you.

TARGETED DRUGS

Recent years have seen an increasing role for so-called 'targeted' agents such as Avastin and Herceptin in the treatment of cancer. These drugs, heralded as the 'smart bombs' of cancer therapeutics, have been the source of much excitement in the medical press and mainstream media. Words such as "miracle," "breakthrough," and "astonishingly effective" have been used to describe them.

But are they really as revolutionary as the enthusiastic language of these commentators would have us believe?

My reports "Herceptin – or Deceptin?" and "Avastin – Your Money or Your Life" offer a clear-eyed assessment of what these drugs can – and cannot – do for the cancer patient.

Majid Ali, M.D., author of The Principles and Practice of Integrative Medicine, says of these reports:

"Individuals with cancer suffer twice: first with fear and suffering caused by their disease and second from the ravages of a malignant system that forces toxic drugs of dubious value on frightened and gullible people.

"Dr. Moss has devoted his extraordinary energy and his rare depth of perspective to offer most needed information so that individuals with cancer can make informed decisions. His articles on Herceptin and Avastin are but two examples of his labor of love. I honor his work and wish him decades of continued service to humankind."

(Dr. Ali is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was formerly the chief pathologist of Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck, NJ.)

NEW SECTION OF WEB SITE - VIDEO ARCHIVES

I want to introduce to you a new feature of our Cancer Decisions.com Web site. It is our new video archive, which can be found at:
http://www.cancerdecisions.com/videoarchives.html

This section contains archived video clips culled from the past 25 years of my video appearances. I have appeared on over 400 radio and television shows, but records of only a few of these appearances have survived the passage of time. Some of the clips in this section are of TV shows; some are videotaped lectures, and one is a small video that I myself created in 2005.

I invite you to take a look at these. Here is a brief chronological tour of the dozen and a half videos on this new page. Two important points before you start, though: the first is that these clips are listed on the page chronologically with the most recent first. However, here I will be discussing them in the reverse chronological order, i.e., the earliest first.

The second caveat is that these video clips may take a minute or two to load onto your computer. Download time depends on the speed of your computer and its Internet connection. You will need QuickTime for PC or Mac, or some other video viewer, in order to see these. Be patient: I have found that as long as you see the big blue "Q" or QuickTime symbol, the video is busy loading. Your patience will eventually be rewarded.

If you have a PC and don't have QuickTime on your computer, you can download it, free, by clicking or going to:

The oldest clip in the archives is from my 1980 appearance on "60 Minutes." This was my first appearance on national television and was my introduction to the world of high-powered TV journalism. This appearance coincided with publication of my first book, The Cancer Syndrome. What a thrilling moment it was when my first editor, Kent Carroll, put a copy of that book in my hands. I soon went on a national media tour: I appeared on Larry King, on "Fresh Air," and a host of other excellent shows. I also met with a "60 Minutes" producer and helped map out a segment on Lawrence Burton, PhD, who was the subject of a chapter in my book. But a few days before that broadcast was scheduled to air, I was informed that my extensive interview had been cut from the show. My agent and her well-connected husband intervened to get me back on the show, but in a truncated version. My greatest satisfaction came as I was crossing Sixth Avenue a few days later and a homeless man stopped me and exclaimed, "You! You were on TV!" Ah, my fifteen minutes of fame!

The next clip is from a documentary "Cancer Scandal" produced in 1988 by the Canadian filmmaker, Ardele Lister. It was made as part of an effort to garner financial support for the defense of the Burzynski clinic. You may notice that I seem, well, very informal in my attire. Two buttons of my shirt are undone. That was not just bohemianism. This video was shot in an un-air conditioned Manhattan apartment, under bright lights on one of the hottest days in history! So I, and the other interviewees, were on the verge of passing out from heatstroke.

The next is from "Everyday with Joan Lunden." Joan Lunden (as many of you no doubt remember) was co-host of "Good Morning, America" from 1980 to 1997. Her cable show featured a debate with George Hill, MD, a representative of the American Cancer Society. Usually the ACS refused to debate me, or else would not show up. However, I remember that Dr. Hill was a gentle and reasonable man.

In the summer of 1990, I took a road trip from New York to San Diego and then up to San Francisco, where I stayed the night at the dilapidated mansion of Ernst T. Krebs, Jr., discoverer of Laetrile. I arranged this trip to publicize my book, The Cancer Industry. I arranged 13 radio and TV shows from my New York publicist's office - but this is the only video that survives. It was filmed in Colorado Springs, where I was visiting with Hal Huggins, DDS. What I most remember about that long day was a barrage of two-inch hailstones that scared me and my son out of our wits.

In the 1990s, I went to Toronto several times, and the next item is from a Canadian TV broadcast dated November 1992. My book Cancer Therapy had just come out, another time of great excitement and anticipation for me. I had also just been appointed to the National Institutes of Health Alternative Medicine Program Advisory Council. This report exudes the optimism of that time, as does my appearance on The McCreary Report (Fox TV) in 1993. I remember that the other guest that day was Harold Freeman, MD, a figure for whom I have always had the greatest respect. Soon after that he became chair of the President's Cancer Panel and national president of the American Cancer Society.

In 1994, I gave a cross-country "Equinox" lecture tour, which ended up in Seattle. The person seen introducing me at the beginning is Jonathan Wright, MD, with whom I now serve on the Life Extension Foundation's board of scientific advisors. I also gave the keynote address at a meeting of the Upledger Foundation, held in Curaçao, West Indies. Also in 1994 and again in 1995 came two interviews I did with Carol Martin, the Emmy-award winning TV host and one of the most charming people on the New York media scene. In 1996, Gabe Pressman produced his memorable special for WNBC-TV, "The Truth About Cancer." Because of Gabe's outstanding reputation, and WNBC's prestige as the nation's first TV station, this program had a huge impact. For years afterward, Mt. Sinai Medical School re-screened this video for medical students and I got to debate the oncologist Dr. James Holland on its content.

In 1997, I was back on the road, traveling to Florida to film two segments for the fledgling America's Health Network. The other guest on this show was my friend, Congressman Berkley Bedell, the Iowa Democrat who spearheaded the Office of Alternative Medicine at the NIH. I follow this with the short segment of a speech that I gave in Copenhagen, Denmark that summer on the topic of nutritional therapy. I have returned to Denmark many times since then; Copenhagen is one of my favorite cities.

I would like to show a clip from Gabe Pressman's recent TV production, "America's War on Cancer," from August 2006. Unfortunately, WNBC has not seen fit to reproduce this at its Web site. Therefore the most recent clip that I have is from my May 2006 appearance on "To the Best of My Knowledge," an excellent interview show hosted by the President of Penn State University, the multi-talented Dr. Graham Spanier. You might also want to take a look at my own home-made movie on the 2005 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting. I intend to do more such movies in the future.

I hope that you will enjoy watching these video archives as much I enjoyed participating in the interviews and reviewing them. Despite their varied venues and purposes, I think my underlying message has been pretty consistent - that alternative methods of treating cancer are worth considering and that they have never been given a fair and impartial hearing. The main reason for this is the domination of the cancer marketplace by Big Pharma. Of course, the media plays a huge role in shaping public opinion, but the fact that you are reading – or listening to – this newsletter proves that alternate media, such as the Web, can also play a role in changing this reality.
