Ralph Moss has published "Complementary And Alternative (CAM) Cancer Treatments In Germany" as an online book. Moss, a noted American science writer, was inducted as the first honorary member of the German Society of Oncology (DGO) in 1998. Since then he has made ten trips to Germany to investigate its unconventional cancer treatments and clinics.

This report came out of a tour of clinics that Moss made in May 2008 and two follow up trips in November 2008 and January 2009. But is much more than just a report on clinics. Moss delves into the historical development and current status of oncologists, clinics and hospitals in Germany that use, in addition to conventional treatment, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) approaches to cancer. According to E. Dieter Hager, MD, PhD, president of the Medical Association for Complementary Medicine and Naturopathy:

"Ralph W. Moss is one of the most distinguished experts on complementary and alternative medicine in Germany. His report is a reliable source of information, describing in a comprehensive way the treatments available at German clinics. It will help patients make better decisions as they seek CAM treatment in Germany."

German CAM treatment has a long history and draws on a 2,000-year-old tradition of botanical medicine. The Renaissance physician Paracelsus turned medicine towards a reliance on personal experience and experimentation. Hufeland, Priessnitz and Kneipp then advanced the exploration of the effects of dietary and life style changes, water (hydrotherapy) and heat (hyperthermia) on health. The creation of German many health spas in the 19th and early 20th centuries provided home bases for doctors and laypersons, who practiced 'natural medicine.' About half of German CAM clinics are still located in spa towns.

This 82-page report focuses on the development of CAM cancer treatments in the post-WWII environment. It explores the methods used at these clinics, including hyperthermia in its varied forms as well as mistletoe extracts; biological response modifiers; autologous, dendritic cell and Newcastle disease virus vaccines; thymic peptides; orthomolecular medicine; and photodynamic therapy. It discusses six seminal figures who helped shape the development of the CAM in Germany: Issels, Hackethal, Nieper, Scheef, Ransberger and von Ardenne. It concludes with a frank appraisal of eight of the leading clinics that Moss visited in 2008-2009.

Many experts familiar with the German CAM clinic scene have read and contributed their knowledge to this report. Here are some of their comments:

"This excellent factual report on the development of CAM cancer treatment in Germany will guide many patients to prolong their lives in better quality. It also gives me great satisfaction that my husband Dr. Josef Issels' perseverance in, and devotion to, the advancement of the comprehensive immunotherapy of cancer, were not in vain."
-Ilse-Marie Issels, Scottsdale, AZ

"Ralph W. Moss's report on the German CAM cancer clinics is excellent and very informative. It will be a great help for patients as well as physicians."
-Thomas Nesselhut, MD, Institute for Tumor Therapy, Duderstadt, Germany

"I greatly enjoyed reading this report. In particular, the section on the development of CAM treatments in Germany as compared to other countries, is very interesting."
-Alexander Herzog, MD, Herzog Klinik, Bad Salzhausen, Germany

PHONE CONSULTATIONS

Ralph Moss does phone consultations for clients who have previously ordered one of our comprehensive Moss Reports on their cancer. This is from a client who recently did her second phone consultation:

"Ralph Moss is probably the most well versed person in the world on the topic of cancer treatment. He does not appear to have a bias for or against anything and tells it like he sees it. Simply put, we trust his knowledge of cancer treatments, both conventional and alternative, more than anyone else and we will not take any action without first speaking with him. Hopefully he continues to devote his life to digging into the facts and presenting them truthfully without the spin which vested parties continue to use. He does not dismiss conventional treatment, but determines what the research actually shows. Likewise, he does not advocate alternative treatments unless there is proof of its worth." - J.W., Chicago, March 4, 2009

If you would like to set up a phone consultation (or have already done one and want to arrange a follow-up), please contact Ralph's assistant, Jacquie Johnson. Her phone number is 814-466-6514.
