How to Eat Citrus.

Did you know that eating citrus fruits, including the peel, will help boost your cancer fighting ability? They contain chemicals called monoterpenes, including d-limonene, and have shown particular value in preventing breast, liver and lung cancer. Try kumquats which you can eat rind and all.

The exception to this rule is if you are currently taking the drug tamoxifen. For reasons unknown, the flavonoid tangeretin (present in some supplements and in citrus peel) may interfere with the action of that drug, at least in animals (J Natl Cancer Inst 1999;91:354-359).

By contrast, a food supplement called Modified Citrus Pectin shows promise as a treatment for stopping metastases in prostate and other kinds of cancer (J Natl Cancer Inst. 2002;94:1854-1862).
